CHIBA PREFECTURAL MUSEUM OF ART 　　The Chiba Prefectural Museum of Art opened on 23 October 1974 , after the exhibition building was completed in March 1974 and the organization was established on I April 1974. The administration building and studio building were completed in February 1976 and February 1980, respectively and in August 1988, added were a gallery, the repository room and a machinery room. 　　Since the Museum is one- storied (partly two- storied) ,all galleries have wide space and are arranged on the flat floor. 　　As to the exterior of the Museum, the roofs, shaped with geometrically straight lines, are covered with natural slate, and the outer walls are decorated with special red ceramic brick of Tokoname. ■ Facilities Site area　　　　 　　　　　　33,058�u Building area 　　　　 　　　　8,778�u Total floor area 　　　　　　10,664�u Exhibition Building 　　　　　6,343�u Administration Building 　　2,819�u Sutudio Building　　　　　　 1,502�u ■Museum's Collection 　　We collect works by artists who are related to Chiba Prefecture and who are both from domestic and international sources focusing on modern and contemporary art. Especially, we systematically collect works by the artists who are connected with the Prefecture of Chiba such as Chu Asai who participated in a scene as a pioneer of westernstyle painting, his pupils and surrounding artists, and artists such as Hotsuma Katori and Shinobu Tsuda, metalworkers who strove for development in the Japanese modern crafts scene.
