Currently this museum is closed due to preparations for the consolidation of functions into the main building in Chiba city.
History
In June, 1973, the construction of the sixth prefectural museum was decided. The museum's present site was selected in January, 1975. and construction started in October, 1978.
A Preparatory Office was set up in the Cultural Affairs Section of the Prefectural Education Agency in January, 1979 and the institution was established on April 1, 1979. A temporary office was set up on the building site and the building was completed in June of that year.
The exhibition works were completed in October and the museum opened to the public on November 21, 1979.
Specialty
The Otone Museum focused on the "Nature and History of the Tone River" and the "Farms of Chiba".Also, materials related to the history. people, industry and natural science of Katori ancl Kaiso of East Shimosa in the northeastern part of Chiba were collected. sequestered and exhibited.
The museum provided these materials to the general public and conducts special projects and exhibitions for education. research and recreation. The museum also conducted research on materials collected.
